The Snow Covered Tips January 17, 1999
The snow covered the tips
And we bravely travelled
the well trodden path
up a course we'd laid
for ourselves only weeks earlier.
How simple life becomes
when it's dropped to this level.
Well, it's far above sea-level,
but it's still very simple here.
One foot in front of the other.
To make it to the top of the moutain.
To not fall, to not fail.
To keep walking until you're there.
Yet there is difficulty even in that,
a painful exertion of the will
to overcome the limitations
of the mind controlling the body.
The mind feels pain,
the mind feels cold,
the mind feels depression,
and the mind feels anxiety.
The will knows the goal,
the will ignores the cost,
and the will makes us survive,
makes us overpower the mind.
But the will can't fend off sleep…
Well, at least not this time.
